Owner of trucking company found dead in yard next to big rig

HOUSTON – The owner of a trucking company was found dead Monday in his yard in east Houston.

Police were called just before 7:30 a.m. to the 7300 block of Texarkana Street. A truck driver found the body as he was getting ready to drive away, investigators said.

Police said the owner of Flatway Transportation, identified by family members as Wilmer Erazo,  was loading a truck around 2:30 a.m. when he got into an altercation with at least two people. Erazo was shot at least once, police said.

Witnesses told police they saw two people running away.

Erazo, 40, has three kids with his estranged wife. She said he was a great man and a terrific father.

"He said 'If I die, I want to die doing what I love,'" said Erazo girlfriend, Angelica Garcia, who also works for his company as a dispatcher. "He would (do) anything and everything for anybody. He (didn't) have to know you, all he needs to know (is what your need) and he's right there."

Two men were seen wearing all black clothing and running from the scene around the time the gunshots were heard.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
