Carjacking suspect in custody after police chase, search in north Houston

HOUSTON – A man has been charged with evading arrest in a vehicle after a police chase through North Houston that started in the 10000 block of North Freeway.

Police said officers attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jason Marroquin, who they said is a known felon, but Marroquin fled.

Marroquin led police on a chase on Interstate 45 near the Crosstimbers exit where an officer crashed into a guard rail and Marroquin took off.

Police said Marroquin parked the vehicle in a Jack in the Box parking lot and got into a green Buick in a Walmart parking lot that they said belonged to his girlfriend.

Police said Marroquin called the woman to pick him up, but it is unclear if the woman knew of the chase.

The woman wanted to end the chase, but Marroquin pushed her out of the vehicle and continued to a nearby neighborhood, according to police.

Marroquin later abandoned the Buick and fled on foot through a neighborhood.

Police set up a perimeter near the 4100 block of Oxford and Neyland streets in search of Marroquin with help from a K-9.

Marroquin was found and arrested.

"District attorney didn't take any charges on her," HPD Lt. Kevin Tolls said. "The suspect, along with the original warrant, has been charged with two counts of evading, one for each vehicle that he was in as well as felony for possession of a firearm, for a shotgun that was found in the trunk of his vehicle."

The woman was reunited with her vehicle and allowed to leave.
