Pizza truck fire snarls traffic for hours in northwest Houston

Cause of fire under investigation

HOUSTON – A pizza truck that caught fire early Friday morning snarled traffic for hours in northwest Houston.

The fire was reported about 1 a.m. on the southbound side of Beltway 8 between Philippine Street and West Road.

Officials said the truck was hauling pizza ingredients for a Little Caesars restaurant when the brakes on the trailer caught fire.

The southbound side of the highway was shut down while firefighters battled the blaze. Traffic was down to one lane on the northbound side.

A wrecker removed the tractor-trailer after the fire was extinguished. 

All lanes reopened about 5:45 a.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
