Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle while attempting to cross road

Victim was not using crosswalk, police say

HOUSTON – A deadly car crash in the 900 block of Aldine Bender near Ormel Street had the roads shut down for several hours Tuesday night.

Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office traffic division said a man was attempting to cross the street around 7 p.m. when he was struck and killed.

A female driver in one car hit and killed the pedestrian, then she slammed on her brakes and a second car hit her car from behind.

Both drivers stopped at the scene and waited with the victim until police arrived.

“We have two cars who were heading westbound on Aldine Bender, unbeknownst to them, and without warning, he kind of appeared in their lane,” said Sgt. Mike Harvey.

Harvey said the street was dark because there are no lights in the area and the victim was not using a crosswalk.

“It’s still very early in the investigation, but I don’t perceive any charges being filed,” Harvey said. “We don’t have any indications of speed at this point, and we don’t have indications of impairment or intoxication.”

The identity of the victim is still unknown as deputies continue to investigate.
