PEARLAND, Texas – There is a bullet hole in the windshield of his car, a hole in the sleeve of his shirt and a bruise on his upper arm -- it's where a Pearland man was grazed with a bullet.
The married father of two was driving in his neighborhood when he noticed two burglars breaking into his neighbor's car. It was 7 p.m. Tuesday.
"The street lights had just come on," he said. "I could see the driver door open with the windows busted. I knew it wasn't right."
Eric, who asked that his last name not be used, decided to follow the two men as they left the Pearland neighborhood. Eric called 911 and kept an eye on the burglars as he drove.
"They saw me in the rear-view mirror," he said. "They knew, they knew it, they knew I was following them."
Suddenly, the passenger in the car popped up through the sunroof and fired two shots at Eric. One of the bullets struck his windshield and Eric was hit in the arm.
"At that point I was thinking, 'Oh my God,'" he said. "I was more nervous than anything."
It was a terrifying moment for Eric, but even scarier is the fact that one of the burglars still hasn't been caught.
Pearland police caught up with the suspect's car, but the two burglars got out and started running. Police captured the passenger, who was the one who fired the shots. It turned out to be a 16-year-old child who is now charged with aggravated assault and burglary.
The other suspect has been identified, but not arrested.
"I was trying to be a good neighbor," Eric told KPRC 2. "Trying to help everybody out. This is part of my community, too. We look for each other as much as possible."
