Man dies after officer-involved shooting in NW Houston

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer shot an armed man to death on Monday after responding to a noise complaint in the 2600 block of Mayview Drive, police said.

Police said the officer approached a 39-year-old man who was sitting in a white Infinity sedan involved in the noise complaint.

The officer smelled marijuana and asked the man to step out the vehicle. When the man got out of the vehicle, he began to struggle with the officer, according to police.

During the struggle, the officer saw a gun in a holster on the man's waistband, police said. The officer said the man pulled the gun out of the holster, which made the officer fear for his life, so the officer shot the man, according to police.

The man was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The officer was not injured.

There is bodycam footage of the shooting, police said. The incident is under investigation.
