Northwest Houston hotel guest bitten by bed bugs

Woman claims there were bed bugs in her hotel room

HOUSTON – A woman claims there were bed bugs in her hotel room in northwest Houston.

"I thought I was having an allergic reaction, but then we looked in the bed and there were bed bugs just crawling around on the bed," said Jenny Gerardo.

Her boyfriend shot disturbing video inside the Quality Inn on 290 and 43rd last Sunday morning.

"I have bites pretty much 20 to 25 bites all over me which have been nerve-wracking and hard to deal with especially when you're at work," said Gerardo.

Gerardo said she showed an employee the video and the hotel manger called her the next day.

"He was kinda like well, 'I already called somebody, there's nothing there so I don't know what else to tell you,' and he didn't even want to refund me my money," she said.

Gerardo said an exterminator confirmed they were bed bugs.

Since then though, Manager Rick Patel called her back apologizing and promising a refund for her one-night stay.

Patel told KPRC Channel 2 News a pest control company did not find beg bugs in the room. He added, "That same room was rented for two days and that guest didn't complain about any bed bugs. If anything, enjoyed staying with us."

For Gerardo, her stay at Quality Inn was anything but enjoyable.

"This is a serious situation. If there are really bugs in there, you have to take care of it. Someone else can come in there and get bit, kids and everything," she said.

Gerardo said now she's worried about the bed bugs in her home. An exterminator said the treatment could cost her about $1,500.
