(LAKANA) – Gas prices have continued to drop for 30 days straight across the country with the national average at $2.23 per gallon.

This streak is the longest since August to September last year, according to AAA.

The average is down 53 cents from one year ago.

AAA estimates nearly a quarter of gas stations across the U.S., nearly 25,000 stations, are selling gas at under $2 per gallon.

States with the most expensive average gas prices per gallon:

  • California: $2.88
  • Hawaii: $2.83
  • Washington: $2.67
  • Alaska: $2.66
  • Nevada: $2.57
  • Oregon: $2.54
  • District of Columbia: $2.51
  • Idaho: $2.47
  • New York: $2.40
  • Connecticut: $2.39
