Mother of 3 killed in hit-and-run; daughter's message to driver

HOUSTON – The family of a Houston woman killed just before Christmas in a hit-and-run crash is pleading for the public's help to find the person responsible.

On Dec. 16 at 2 a.m., 45-year-old Rose Almaguer Castro was walking with a friend to grab a bite to eat.

As they tried to cross state Highway 249 at Fallbrook Road, the driver of a red, older-model Chevy pickup truck hit the pair.

Her companion was badly injured, but survived.

But Rose was struck by a second car, whose driver did stop. That person was not charged.

"He took our mom, my daughter's grandmother. We have to live with why you did it and why you couldn't stop," said Jennifer Castro.

Jennifer hopes whoever was driving that red truck will come forward.

"Show some remorse. You took a life," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
