Man's body found at basement level outside Houston City Hall

HOUSTON – A body was found at the basement level outside the Houston City Hall building Wednesday.

Police were called at about 10:25 a.m. When investigators arrived, a man’s body was discovered.

According to investigators, contract workers at City Hall were inspecting a concrete drainage trench along the side of the building when they saw the body lying on the floor. 

Police believe the man, 79, is homeless and fell about 13 feet from a ledge that surrounds part of the building. 

They are not sure if the man was sitting or sleeping on the ledge when he fell.

The Houston Police Department homicide unit is investigating.
