Man who played 'Taps' every night from Galveston balcony dies at 84

GALVESTON, Texas – Guy Taylor, the man known for playing "Taps" in Galveston, played his final melody Monday night.

Taylor, 84, joined the Marines in 1950.

He served in Korea where he received the Navy Commandant Medal for saving the lives of two fellow Marines.

After moving to Galveston in 1995, Taylor took it upon himself to play "Taps" at sunset everyday from his balcony in honor of all veterans.

Tonight, those he played for are remembering his life.

Those KPRC2 spoke to say they do not want the nightly tradition to die with Taylor.

They are hoping someone will continue playing the song in his honor, and to honor all veterans.
