Police responded around 11 a.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting at Baytown Market, which is at the intersection of Market Street and South Airhart Drive.

According to officials, two men attempted to rob the store and shot the clerk as he tried to fight back.

"At some point during the robbery, the clerk fought back, which resulted in both of our suspects discharging weapons," Baytown police Lt. Steve Dorris said.

Police said the clerk was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Police have not released the victim's identity, but said he was conscious and talking when they arrived.
