Man sleeps through home invasion, neighbor shoots at robbers

HOUSTON – Police are looking for two people in connection with a home invasion in north Harris County.

According to police, the two kicked in the door of 83-year-old Harry Wells' home in the 1300 block of Forsythe Lane Sunday night . Police said they tried to take a flat-screen television, Christmas presents and Wells' car before they left through the backyard.

Police said a neighbor saw the thieves and asked what they were doing. They dropped the items and ran.  Police said the pair jumped into a car and tried to run over the neighbor. The neighbor said he fired five shots at the robbers' getaway car while another neighbor called police.

Wells said that because of his poor hearing, he had no idea what was going on and slept through the burglary.

"I didn't know anything was going on, my hearing is so bad, until a deputy sheriff was in the bedroom," Wells said.

Others certainly heard the commotion.

"We knew they were gunshots right away," neighbor Diego Contreras said.

Wells' next-door neighbor, who asked not to be on camera, apparently saw the crooks and tried to stop them. He said after they tried to run him over, he shot at them five times.

"He was worried about the old man. They are really good friends. I really think he's a really good person," Contreras said.

Both thieves got away. It is unclear if either was shot.

Wells was not hurt. The neighbor was also unharmed.
