HOUSTON – A man involved in the 2012 killing of a man over Air Jordan shoes has pleaded guilty.
Anthony Wade got 40 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated robbery. He has already served a little over three years, so he'll be eligible for parole in 17 years.
In December 2012, police said Wade was in a car with three other men who went to rob Joshua Woods and his friend for their brand new Air Jordan sneakers the day the coveted shoes were released.
Upon returning to the friend's house, the group of men pulled up and tried to rob them of the shoes. Woods and his friend took off, but the men opened fire.
Bland fired 14 shots from a .40-caliber handgun, one of the bullets hit Woods in the head, prosecutors said. The vehicle crashed into a house.
"He (Wade) does feel remorse. It was a horrible situation," Wade's defense attorney William Cheadle said.
Cheadle said Woods' mother, Daizy Williams, delivered an emotional victim impact statement.
"I also feel that today healing can begin and he will allow the mother of the dead child to come visit him so I think that's very powerful," he said.
For Woods' family and friends the painful court process is almost over.
"A day to move forward, especially in light of all of the healing we as a community have to do, we as a state have to do and we as a nation have to do," Cheadle said.
Last week, Deron Taylor was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Neil Bland was convicted of capital murder in February and sentenced to life in prison.
Keagean Arrington is the fourth man accused in the case.
