When officers arrived, the truck was heavily damaged and on fire, resting on the rocks below. The fire quickly engulfed the truck, according to authorities.

Galveston fire officials arrived and extinguished the flames.

There was only one man in the truck and he was declared dead at the scene.

The truck's driver was identified as a 47-year-old Galveston resident.

Witnesses told police that the truck was eastbound in the right lane of Seawall Boulevard when it abruptly swerved left to pass a car that was in the same lane.

Witnesses said it appeared the truck went into the center lane, over-corrected, lost control and went over the wall.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no one else was injured, police said.

Authorities said it doesn't appear that any charges will be filed in the deadly crash.
