Man claims he accidentally shot his mother in the leg, officials say

HOUSTON – A woman is in the hospital Friday after police said her son accidentally shot her in the leg. 

Officials said they were called around 3:45 a.m. to the Chez Orleans Apartments on 7065 Bellfort, near Waltrip, where a woman had a gunshot wound to the leg. They said the son reported the shooting and said he accidentally shot his mother. 

She was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive, officials said. 

Officers are Investigating reports that the son was using synthetic marijuana before the shooting.
