Man attacks officer during traffic stop, police say

HOUSTON – A man lunged out of his car an attacked an officer after being pulled over, police said.

A Houston officer pulled over a driver for traffic violations around 1 a.m. Saturday on Airline Drive and Johnston Street.

According to authorities, as soon as the officer got out of his car and approached the vehicle, a man lunged out of his car and attacked the officer.

The officer called for backup and multiple units arrived.

Officials said it took four officers to detain the suspect, who had a federal warrant out for his arrest.

The suspect will be charged with felony assault of a peace officer along with his previous charges.

None of the officers were critically injured.
