Rescue missions conducted during evacuation efforts along San Jacinto River neighborhoods

HOUSTON – We’re continuing to watch the flooding situation along the San Jacinto River in the New Caney area Wednesday morning.

A voluntary evacuation order is in effect in the northeast Harris County neighborhoods, where KPRC 2 found rescue missions underway.

Some residents left, others however were unable to. Emergency crews rescued about three people from their homes early Tuesday morning. The Huffman Fire Chief also told KPRC 2 that as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, 8 people and 23 dogs were rescued.

We saw that family and their dogs, but they declined to go on camera. However, they told KPRC 2 they lost everything.

State Emergency Management officials had High Water Vehicles as well as rescue boats on standby. As the sun came up this morning, we saw several folks driving around and KPRC 2 caught some of them who said they weren’t taking any chances and evacuated.

“They told us from the morning ,” Rachel Johnson said. "

Gillie Grab, who was preparing to evacuate the Idle Wilde neighborhood told us, “We’re pulling our camper out so we’ll have a place to stay in case it wipes us out again.”

Several roads are expected to be impacted near FM 1485, so drivers are encouraged to keep an eye out for road closures — officials say it could be Thursday before the water recedes to a normal level.
