Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay helps lost child who mistook her for real cop

NEW YORK – They say art often imitates reality, and that clearly seemed to be the case when Mariska Hargitay was filming Law & Order: SVU, and a child interrupted the set because she needed help.

The veteran actress of the popular NBC show, known for playing Captain Olivia Benson was filming new episodes in New York City last week, according to Entertainment Weekly, when a lost child saw her badge. That child mistook her for a real police officer and asked for her help.

Call it Hargitay staying in character if you’d like, but either way, production paused for a good 20 minutes to help the little girl, who EW says didn’t notice the cameras or her scene partner and legendary rap star, Ice T.

Thankfully, the child was reunited with her mother, and filming continued. Talk about a happy ending!

Law & Order: SVU is currently in the midst of season 25, with new episodes airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
