Local veterinarian goes on quest to find who dumped neglected puppy

At a quick glance, a 4-month-old puppy with beautiful blue eyes looks OK. But veterinarian Kris Schoeffler and his veterinary technician Liz Smith knew right away the dog was in bad shape.

They found her Wednesday near the front porch of their clinic, the Pearland Animal Hospital on North Main Street.

"She was practically paralyzed. Anytime she shifted her weight she would scream out in pain," Smith said.

X-rays revealed major internal injuries, including broken bones and legs and a shattered pelvis. Blood work showed she also had diseases and parasites.

"It was some kind of trauma that inflicted all of these wounds on her," Schoeffler said. "These weren't things that just happened."

Schoeffler and his team had to put the puppy down. She was too sick to survive surgery.
Now, they are working with law enforcement to track down her owners or anyone who knows what happened.

"They just kind of pushed it out on doorstep and left.  That's the reason we've been so adamant about finding who this was and get the back story," Schoeffler said.  "When you see this kind of neglect it really tugs at your heartstrings."

The doctor is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest and charges filed in this case.  He feels it's a bad case of neglect and he wants to know who is responsible.
