Inmate dies at hospital after suicide attempt in Fort Bend County Jail

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A Fort Bend County Jail inmate died Wednesday morning after he attempted suicide while in the jail Sunday.

Heriberto Coreas, also known as Miguel Lazo, was revived by medical staff after he attempted suicide. Coreas was taken to OakBend Medical Center in Richmond and then was taken to Memorial Hermann in the Medical Center later Sunday.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office received word Wednesday morning that Coreas had died.

Coreas was in jail for a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred late Friday night on Highway 6 South at Bissonnet. He left the scene and was later detained at the intersection of Westheimer Road and Highway 6 by Houston Police Department officers.

Coreas was wanted for continued sexual assault of a child in Dallas and sexual assault of a child in Austin.
