Man shoots woman in face in SE Houston apartment complex parking lot, police say

HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for the person who shot a woman during an ambush at a southeast Houston apartment complex Thursday night. The shooting happened at the Villa Americana complex on Selinsky near Sesame.

Police said the shooter hid behind a dumpster and used a laser sight to target a man who had just driven into the complex to visit a relative. Police said when the driver got out of his car, he noticed a red dot on his clothes and immediately dropped to the ground.

When the gunshots stopped, the driver noticed a woman sitting in the back seat of his car had been shot in the face and leg. The woman survived and, at last check, was in stable condition at the hospital.

Police believe the shooting was the result of a dispute between two groups in the neighborhood and the woman who was shot was not the intended target.

Residents at the complex were reluctant to talk about the shooting, but one woman did voice her frustrations with the amount of violence seen in the neighborhood.

"Just because this is a low income neighborhood don't mean they should be shot at, whatever, dodging gunfire every day or every night," the woman said.

Without going into specifics, police said they do have an idea as to who fired those shots and are out trying to track down that person.
