HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department is considering a uniform change.

The current patch on its uniforms has "Space City U.S.A." on it, but those words could be removed.

During a regularly-scheduled news conference Thursday, Chief Charles McClelland said the department is considering taking those words off the patch.

He said the department is upgrading its uniforms, and that the current patch might not match the new design.

McClelland said this is in no way connected with Houston not getting a retired space shuttle.

"Houston's connection to the space industry will always be relevant in that respect. But I don't think we are doing the city a disservice if the Houston Police Department decides to change," he said.

McClelland said nothing has been decided yet.
