HOUSTON – Thousands of people were set to pack the Houston Theater District for the biggest party in town.

“The ball will drop. There will be fireworks off of Jones Hall," said Kathryn McNiel with the Houston Theater District.

This family is ready for music, food and activities for the kids.

“We want to have family time together because we never have a chance,” said Cesar Avila.

Nearby in midtown, Spec's was a madhouse with many people stocking up on the bubbly.

"It's pretty crowded in here. It's pretty packed,” said Anjie Williams.

"It's pretty crazy! I come here quite often and trying to find parking, I went around the block a couple of times,” said Jerry Cruz.

It was one of the biggest days of the year for its 240 employees.

"We got a whole bunch of people in today. Everybody's in a good mood. The Cougars won today. It's a good thing. We have all hands on deck. Today is the day,” said Ryan Holder, Spec's general manager.

Whether you're at home or out partying, it's set to be the start of a great year.

“I hope that it's a good year for Houston,” said Cruz.

The party in downtown starts at 7 p.m. and ends at midnight.
