Houston police officer arrested on suspicion of DWI, relieved of duties, police say

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday morning in southeast Houston, police said.

The arrest was made at 12:30 a.m. in the 1540 block of Galveston Road.

Houston police said Ronald Gilbert, 27, was on duty when he was found passed out in his police cruiser.

Police said his cruiser was parked. Gilbert tested positive for intoxication, officials said.

Police said Gilbert has served five years as an HPD officer. Police said he was relieved of his duties.

His bail was set at $500.
