HOUSTON – A man died after being shot and his wife was hospitalized after they were attacked Sunday morning, Houston police said.

The shooting was reported around 11 a.m. at a home in the 6000 block of Ettrick Drive.

Police said officers received a call about a possible home invasion and shooting.

Officers and paramedics found that David Macias, 59, had been shot, and his 57-year-old wife had been pistol-whipped and attacked, police said.

Both victims were taken to a hospital. Police said Macias was later pronounced dead and his wife was treated and released.

18-year-old Julius Merchant was arrested Sunday by SWAT officers at an east Houston motel. Police have formally pressed capital murder charges against Merchant.
