Houston-area man dead after shooting in La Marque, police say

LA MARQUE, Texas – A man from the Houston area is dead after a shooting early Wednesday in La Marque, police said.

Officers responded to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Lee Drive at 3:46 a.m. regarding a shots-fired call.

Police said officers found a man, identified as Steve Hollins, 26, who had been shot.

Based on the initial investigation, Hollins is from the Houston area. Police said it is unclear why he was in La Marque.

Reports also indicated Hollins was not alone when the shooting happened. Police said when officers found him, he was on a property in the 200 block of Prune Street. Contact was made with the primary resident. Police said a search warrant for the property was acquired and evidence of the shooting was found on the property.

There was a blood trail that led to Plum Street, where a vehicle was recovered for processing. Police said there are reports that another vehicle was also in that same area on Plum Street and driven away.

Hollins was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The La Marque Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective Sergeant Price or the La Marque Crime Stoppers.
