PASADENA, Texas – Three firefighters were injured Friday morning battling a house fire in Pasadena, fire officials confirm.
A family was inside the home in the 1200 block of Bernard Street near Short Street when a fire broke out in the attic.
No one inside the house knew it was on fire until the mother drove into the driveway and saw smoke and flames shooting through the roof.
She alerted the other family members, who grabbed the children and ran outside into the cold. The children were all between the ages of 2 weeks old and 5 years old. Neighbors ran over to bring warm blankets and shoes for the family while firefighters worked on the flames.
According to officials with the Pasadena Fire Department, fighting the fire was a bit problematic because the breaker box was inside the house and unable to be turned off. Three firefighters were shocked by live wires.
"The house was energized the entire time we were fighting the fire so we had some firefighters that were shocked, but we worked around it," said Chief Larry Armstrong, Pasadena Fire Department.
The injured firefighters were checked out and expected to be OK.
