Highway 288 reopens at FM 2004 after tractor-trailer crash in Lake Jackson

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – Highway 288 reopened in both directions Monday after a tractor-trailer crash and subsequent fuel leak prompted authorities to close the road in Lake Jackson.

Officials said a tanker truck was exiting the highway and making a left turn around 12:15 a.m. onto FM Road 2004 when it flipped over. Part of the tank ruptured causing 250 gallons of fuel to leak, police said.

The truck driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators believe speed was a factor.

North and southbound lanes of 288 were shut down as well as east and westbound lanes of FM Road 2004. Authorities reopened Highway 288 about 8:45 a.m. They said FM Road 2004 will remain closed for another few hours.

Police encouraged drivers to take alternate routes like 288 Business or Highway 35.
