SWAT scene ends after armed man found dead in League City home

HOUSTON – A SWAT scene in which an armed man barricaded himself inside a League City residence has ended after police said the man was found dead.

The incident began at around 8 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 3200 block of White Sail. Police said the man's wife called police saying he had barricaded himself in the home with weapons.

Responding officers heard gunshots upon arrival. SWAT officers and negotiators arrived on the scene.

Residents in the neighborhood were then asked to shelter in place. Clear Falls High, Bayside Intermediate and Mossman Elementary schools were placed in 'protect mode,' in which nobody could leave the buildings, but students were still in class.

"I woke up and I saw the SWAT team outside. Crazy to happen in your own neighborhood," said Neighbor Kevin Diaz.

SWAT officers eventually used a robot to enter the home and found the 33-year-old man deceased inside the residence. Police said he appeared to suffer a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said officers have responded to a disturbance at the home in the past.

His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
