HCSO: Man shoots, kills 2 members of estranged wife's family, rapes her sister

HOUSTON – Disturbing details have been released in the death of a father and son who were allegedly gunned down by a relative late Saturday night.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies say Danny Lee Neelys, 39, shot and killed his brother-in-law, Keidric Jamal Jelks Sr., and his 15-year-old nephew, Keidric Jamal Jelks Jr., at their home in the Northwest Park Colony Park subdivision.

According to deputies, Keidric Jelks Sr., 42, was with his wife, son and 5-year-old daughter at their home in the 12600 block of Atwood Grove Lane Saturday night when he went to let the dog out of the back door.  When he opened the door, Neelys was standing there armed with a tire iron and a pistol.  Neelys forced the family to lie on the living room floor and tied the father's hands behind his back with a bandana.  Neelys then began demanding to know the whereabouts of his estranged wife, who is the sister of Jelks' wife.

When the family said they did not know where his wife was, Neelys knelt down and shot the father and son each in the back of the head, killing them, investigators said.  He then grabbed his sister-in-law and forced her into the master bedroom, where he raped her.

The woman said Neelys told her not to tell anyone about his involvement and she told him she would tell police the family had been the victims of a home intruder, according to court documents.

Neelys then ransacked the home and fled the scene.

Afterward, the woman ran next door to a neighbor's home for help.

The 5-year-old girl also witnessed what happened to her family. She told investigators her Uncle Danny shot her daddy in the neck and her big brother in the head.

A manhunt was launched for Neelys and authorities put out a bulletin, releasing a description of him and and the black Ford Expedition he was believed to be driving.  Neelys did not stay on the run for very long.  Federal agents captured him in a fast food parking lot in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on Monday and he was extradited to Houston Tuesday morning.

Neelys has been charged with capital murder and is being held without bond.
