MCSO patrol deputy killed in motorcycle crash in Conroe

CONROE, Texas – A 21-year-old patrol deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was killed in a motorcycle crash  in Conroe Thursday morning.

The crash happened about 3 a.m. at the intersection of the southbound feeder road and South Loop 336. Conroe police said they found a man and woman lying in the roadway near a maroon Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

"The male and female had been ejected off the motorcycle," said Sgt. Dorcy Riddle with the Conroe Police Department.

The deputy, Catherine Breeding, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. An image (pictured above) was circulated on Facebook to remember Deputy Breeding Thursday night. The man police say was driving the motorcycle, James Selsmer III, 26, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

According to Conroe police, Selsmer is also a law enforcement officer in Montgomery County.

Investigators believe he was speeding and lost control of the motorcycle.

Police say both Selsmer and Breeding were not wearing helmets.

"My heart goes out to them. I would be praying for them," said Dee Lewis, one of the Breeding family's neighbors.

Lewis says her grandson once worked with Breeding.

"It's very very sad, especially when it's such a young girl. We knew her and she was very kind and sweet," she said.

Police officers in Conroe carefully examined the crash site Thursday afternoon.

The investigation is still ongoing.
