2 teens killed while playing with gun at SE Houston apartment, police say

1 vicitm was Worthing High School senior

HOUSTON – Two people were shot and killed Wednesday at an apartment complex in southeast Houston in what police are calling a “tragic accident.”

Investigators said two people, Jordan Coleman, 17, and Alfred Wayne Harris, 19, were playing with a gun at a home in the 4000 block of Corder. Police said the pair were loading, unloading, and checking the safety on the pistol when it went off twice.

One of the victims was shot in the neck and the other was shot in the stomach.

The two were taken to hospitals, where they died.

According to police, there was no sign of an argument or fight. Coleman's sister, who is also Harris' girlfriend, said she told them to stop playing and leave the gun alone before it went off.

Five people were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said.

No one else was hurt.

Coleman's mother said he was a student at Worthing High School and worked at McDonald's.

“I’m still in disbelief. I don’t think it’s true. I mean, I go on my faith because God is in my heart all the time, and I know he don’t make no mistakes,” Netra Steven said. “But at the end of the day we have to pray for our children and we have to teach them, and remember, guns are dangerous.”
