Group announces rankings for top Houston public schools

HOUSTON – Several prestigious Houston area schools can add more academic accolades to their names.

The Children At Risk organization and the Education Resource Group partnered to research and rank the top schools in Houston.

The public school rankings included 58 school districts plus charter schools around Houston. The results were announced Monday.

DeBakey High School for Health Professions was named the top public high school in the greater Houston area.

T.H. Rogers Elementary and T.H. Rogers Middle School topped the list for both elementary and middle schools.

"Congratulations to the faculty and student body of all our campuses," said Dr. Bob Sanborn, president and CEO of Children At Risk. "These are excellent schools in the Houston area, and we're excited to welcome all newcomers to this group of elite learning institutions."

"We should all be proud today. These rankings are a reminder of the great things that are happening in our classrooms every day," said Superintendent Terry Grier. "There is still more work to be done, but it is clear that the hard work of everyone -- teachers, principals, parents, students, volunteers -- is paying off in major ways, and others are taking notice."
