Galleria shopper targeted by thieves for expensive purse

HOUSTON – Shoppers at The Galleria are trying to stay cautious after two reports this week of thieves going the distance to steal high-end purchases.

The latest victim said on July 17 she bought a $2,100 Louis Vuitton purse.

She left the mall with her family to head back to their home in Richmond. Along the way, they stopped at a PetSmart and when they returned to their SUV the back window was shattered and the Louis Vuitton purse was gone.

“It was really scary to think that someone had driven about 30 miles and had planned that,” the victim told Channel 2.

She believes the thieves watched her leave The Galleria with her Louis Vuitton bag, then they followed her until she came to a stop at the PetSmart.

“The first thing that came to my mind is that they could have followed us home,” the victim said.

That is exactly what happened to another victim Channel 2 spoke to Monday night.

She also bought a Louis Vuitton bag and believes she was followed to her home, all the way in Summerwood. Surveillance video captured the thieves pulling up to her driveway, then getting out of their car to steal her bag.

“I always try to keep my stuff close to me and make sure no one is behind me,” Melissa Ray said.

“You have to be aware of your surroundings,” Paula Ewald said.
