Alley Theatre's renovation progress

HOUSTON – This is the year the Alley Theatre in downtown Houston is scheduled to re-open. It's been under construction since July, and Thursday Local 2 got a look at the progress. 

It's a monumental $46.5 million construction project. As the Alley Theatre undergoes the renovation, performances are being held at the University of Houston's main campus.  he grand opening of the renovated Alley is scheduled for October 2015.

"It's been a wonderful theater, but it's 46 years old so it was in desperate need of an upgrade so that we would have a state of the art theatre to house our acting company," said Roger Plank, co-chair of Alley Capital Campaign. 

The process hasn't been without its setbacks. There was a fire at the theatre in last September.
