Arrest made in attack on woman waiting for METRO bus

HOUSTON – A woman accused last week of attacking another woman who was waiting for a bus was arrested Sunday, police said.

Modissty Houston, 24, of Houston, was charged with injury to the elderly and assault with bodily injury to a public servant in connection with the March 8 incident at the METRO park-and-ride lot at 12920 Kuykendahl Road.

Police said a 70-year-old woman was waiting to catch a bus with two friends to spend the day in Houston. They said that as the women were walking up a flight of stairs, a woman who was walking down the stairs punched one of the women in the face.

One of the other two women, who asked that her name not be used, began taking photographs with her cellphone, police said.

“I looked up and somebody rushed to Margaret,” the witness said. "Then Margaret fell down, and the garbage can fell down.”

METRO police were called, but the woman disappeared in the parking lot before they arrived.

Other passengers said she had been hanging around the station since about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim’s friend said there was no warning before it happened, and no explanation for why it happened.

“It doesn’t make sense,” she said. “I could not think of any clue why she’s doing that.”

The victim was taken to Northwest Medical Center and examined. She suffered a knot on her head and bruises, but didn't appear to be seriously hurt.
