Thieves burglarize Montrose bike shop twice, steal $10,000 worth of merchandise

HOUSTON – Thieves have burglarized a Montrose bike shop twice, stealing more than $10,000 worth of bikes, according to police.

Houston police said the burglaries were reported at 4 a.m. Oct. 3 and again at 5 a.m. Tuesday at Ham Cycles in the 2300 block of Dunlavy Street.

According to investigators, the burglars forced their way in by kicking in the front door and stole four bikes in each burglary.

The owners of the shop reinforced the door with a heavy-duty striker plate, but the thieves were able to unhinge the door by repeatedly kicking it in. The burglars took the bikes closest the the door and passed up more expensive bikes.

The owners of the store have reinforced the door again with 2-by-4s.
