1 dies after suspected drunken driver slams into power line tower

HOUSTON – A suspected drunken driver crashed into a power line tower on Saturday, killing a passenger in his vehicle, police said.

The accident was reported at 8:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of West Orem Drive.

Houston police said a man was driving a blue Toyota Scion on West Orem when swerved out of his lane and crossed a grassy median. Police said the vehicle struck the concrete base of a power line tower.

The driver was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. His condition is unknown.

His passenger, a 43-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The men’s identities have not been released.

The incident is under police investigation.
