Crosby ISD releases video of terrifying school bus crash

CROSBY, Texas – Crosby Independent School District has released video from inside a school bus involved in an accident last week.

More than a dozen people were injured when the bus, with students aboard, flipped Sept. 23 near Crosby, officials said.

The crash was reported about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of FM Road 1942 and Bohemian Hall Road.

Ryan Sullivan, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said that around 50 students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash.

We're told 17 people, including the bus driver, were taken to a hospital.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said, and all of the students were able to get out of the bus safely.

Sullivan said the bus swerved to avoid another vehicle and crashed into the ditch, flipping onto its side.

James Beights said he was the driver of the truck the bus swerved to avoid hitting.

"I was stopped, waiting on traffic to turn onto my driveway," Beights, who lives on FM 1942, said. "She swerved to miss me and rolled into the ditch."
Beights said he rushed over to help pull students off the bus.

A representative of the Crosby Independent School District confirmed that Bus No. 213 was involved in the crash. The bus serves Crosby Middle and Crosby High schools, according to the Crosby ISD superintendent, Dr. Keith Moore.

"I (saw) the bus," said a witness who called KPRC2 about the crash. "It was flipped. Kids were in and out of the bus. I stopped to render aid. There were so many people there. They said they got it. I went ahead and left. There were kids on the ground, bleeding, crying, screaming."

Moore said there are no seat belts installed on the bus.

Parents with students on the bus were told to go to the district's Operations Center, but we're all students who were not taken to the hospital were picked up by parents at the scene of the crash.

Moore said parents were notified immediately via phone and on social media.

"I did a callout district-wide, just a generic callout, to let everyone know that there was a significant bus accident on 213," Moore said.

Officials told KPRC2 most of those treated at the hospital were released as of late Friday evening.

This is Damon Martin. Damon is one of two men who rushed over to pull students off bus that overturned on FM 1942 in Crosby this afternoon.
