New clues surrounding missing teen's death

HOUSTON – A family is desperately trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding a teenager's death and new clues may help investigators with the case.

Antonio Saldivar's body was found in the Houston Ship Channel on Thursday. The 17-year-old had been missing for nearly two weeks.

You think it's quite possible that his body could have started here and drifted over several days down there.

Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller is uniquely qualified to answer questions about this case. His crew combed the East End for days looking for Saldivar.

We now know for certain it was Saldivar's body found in the ship channel Thursday morning and shockingly Miller says something was found with him.

"Supposedly the teddy bear he had was stuffed down in between his legs when his body was found," said Miller.

Local 2 Investigates confirmed through a photo too graphic for television that a stuffed animal Miller says was intended to be a Valentine's Day gift for the teen's girlfriend was still with Saldivar in the water.

Family certainly thinks foul play.

When we asked Miller what happened and how did Saldivar get in the water, he replied, "That's the million dollar question."

The Houston Police Department tells Local 2 that the agency is waiting on the cause of death ruling from the medical examiner to determine which direction their investigation will now take.
