Man accused of fatally shooting ex-wife in grocery store parking lot sought

HOUSTON – A man who police said fatally shot his ex-wife in a grocery store parking lot is charged with murder and on the run.

Jessie Earl Nicholson is charged with murder in the death of his ex-wife, Sheila Elaine Nicholson, 54.

Police said Sheila Nicholson and a man were walking in the parking lot of a grocery store at 4719 West 34th St. near Mangum when the man shot her. She was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where she later died.

Witnesses said the man drove off in a blue Ford Taurus. He then returned on foot and drove off in a red Toyota Tercel.

Police identified Jessie Nicholson, 59, as the suspect. Police said he is believed to be armed and possibly in northwest Houston.
