Teacher fired over racial rant toward students

BALTIMORE, Md. – A Baltimore teacher was fired after she was accused of making racially charged comments at students.

Baltimore City schools CEO Sonja Santelises made the call to terminate the middle school science teacher after watching cellphone video recorded by a student.

"The behavior in that video was not about a teacher trying to regain control of the class. The focus of our reaction was really about the way that teacher went about it, and frankly, the way young people were treated and addressed," Santelises said.

The incident, which happened a couple of days ago, only came to light after it was posted on social media.

The Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School teacher was apparently trying to gain control of her eighth-grade class when she lost control.

In the video the teacher is heard saying, “You're getting zeros for doing nothing… punk a** n*****s getting shot.”

School officials are standing by the termination of the teacher and said they want to drive the point that hate speech and discrimination will not be tolerated in their district.

One parent of a student in the teacher’s class said she was surprised by the news and had never seen the teacher behave that way in the past. She said her child looked up to his instructor.
