Child shot in south Houston home expected to survive, officials say

HOUSTON – Police are investigating a shooting in south Houston after a child was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, officials said.

Authorities said two children were in a house at 9230 Saint Lo when one of them was shot.

KPRC 2's Bill Spencer reported family members say Jerome Bell, 9, was shot in the neck when a 9-millimeter handgun went off accidentally when the 9-year-old and another boy were playing with the gun.

Family said the gun was locked up, but the boys managed to break the lock and find the gun.

Bell was in surgery Sunday, but is expected to be okay.

The second child involved in the shooting was uninjured.
