HOUSTON – CHI St. Luke's Health System said that it plans to cut 459 jobs across the state of Texas as a part of a restructuring program.
The health system said Thursday that it would be reducing its staff by 620 positions. Of those 620 position, 161 were vacant positions, which will not be filled.

Officials have not specified what departments will be be affected by the job cut.
CHI St. Luke's Health System released the following statement:
"Like other hospital systems here in Texas and across the nation, we recently announced that we are working to restructure the CHI Texas Division to respond to continued changes in the healthcare environment. While we have made significant improvements in the past few months, we must continue to institute critical organizational changes to further realign our financial performance to sustain and grow our network of care across southeast Texas.
"This week, we have reduced 620 positions across the division, representing less than four percent of our workforce across 17 hospitals, our employed physician network, our freestanding emergency centers, and other assets. Of the positions impacted, 161 were vacant positions that will not be filled and 459 employees are leaving our organization. In alignment with our core values, we are providing professional and spiritual support services to employees affected by this transition. We appreciate these individuals for their contribution to the organization and their dedication to our patients.
"As we move forward, we will continue to focus on performance improvement plans to address opportunities in key areas while implementing strategies designed to support growth. While never an easy process, rebalancing our workforce allows us to more effectively manage our resources so that we are well positioned to serve the community into the future."
