HOUSTON – A mother died after being shot inside her vehicle just after 9 p.m. Monday night and now her husband is speaking out.
"She was the love of my life. We were together ten years. I've known her since middle school. She was everything. She just meant the world to me. She was my best friend. She was my soul mate. She was the mother of my children," said Edward Scott. "She was everything that I could hope for in life. There will never be another one like her. Without her I feel kind of lost in this world right now."
Police said 29-year-old Jessica Lynn Mills was with her husband and their 4-year-old and 4-month-old daughters at a Walmart in Stafford.
Shortly after, the family was involved in a hit-and-run accident.
The family's SUV was hit and the driver of the other car took off.
The family decided to follow the vehicle for information to a parking lot at 11926 South Wilcrest when someone the driver of the vehicle pulled out a gun and fired multiple times at the family.Â
"They hit us and you know we just tried to talk to them and then you know they shot you know into the back window of the vehicle and they barely missed my daughter," said Scott.
The woman, sitting in her vehicle, was shot in the back and died on the way to the hospital.
"My wife just wanted to get the license plate so you know we could make an incident report, Scott said. "For you to do this to a mother, 2 children...what kind of person are you..how can you just be here in this world."
Houston police and Stafford police are investigating, and said the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run and shooting matched the description of a vehicle taken during a carjacking earlier in the evening.
They are looking for a gray-colored Jeep Commander with Texas license plates CN5X057. Police described the men inside the vehicle as two black men, approximately 16-20 years-old. The driver of the vehicle was wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants, the victim's husband said.Â
