"A shotgun was recovered at the scene," said Lt. J.T. Barringer of the Houston Police Department.

The woman's identity has not been released, but police said her husband is James Barnard.

He suffered stab wounds and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, according to authorities.

"He has a few stab wounds in his back. We're not sure exactly how that occurred," said Jennifer Saldana with HPD.

Barnard, 43, is charged with murder. Police said their investigation revealed Barnard shot his wife during a domestic dispute.

"I would see him take his kids to school, drop his kids off at school. You would never think the dude would do this," said one resident.

According to HPD, the couple had three teenage kids, who may have witnessed the incident.

"From what I know so far, there's at least one child that was inside the apartment. I'm not sure if all three were inside but I do know that at least one witnessed the incident," Saldana said

"The girl actually ran to the office and advised the property manager that there had been a shooting in the house, and of course we called 911 immediately," said Jack Yetiv, a property manager with the Park Apartment complex.
