Body found floating in Brazos River

ROSENBERG, Texas – A tragedy was discovered Tuesday afternoon when members of the Brazos River Authority spotted a man’s lifeless body floating face-down in the river near 400 Baker Road.

The victim, Guadalupe Bueno-Aranda, 57, was reported missing by his family on Oct. 11 after returning home from the hospital where he had been evaluated for mental health issues, police said.

Members of the Rosenberg Police Department, Rosenberg Fire Department, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department and Richmond Fire Department are investigating to see if the man may have been killed by someone, committed suicide, or simply drowned by accident.

Local residents who know the Brazos River well say that at times, the currents can be incredibly strong and impossible to swim through.

The body was discovered around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday by members of the Brazos River Authority, who were doing work in the area.

According to police, Guadalupe walked away from his home, and detectives are not sure what led up to the drowning.

The medical examiner said the preliminary cause of death is drowning, with no apparent signs of foul play.
