Bayland Little League left mower-less after thief strikes

Bayland Park Little League's mower stolen from shed

HOUSTON – The Bayland Little League season is winding down, but the mild winter and recent rain has made upkeep of the fields a frequent chore.

"We mow these fields two to three times a week," Reid Colley, league president, said.

There are three fields. But over the weekend, Colley says someone stole their expensive John Deere mower.

"We have another layer of security here with a lock. As you can tell, they took a saw or grinder to it," Colley said.

A very calculated move, he says, because they didn't take anything else.

He suspects the thieves made their slow-speed getaway just down the road from the Little League park.

This may be the only situation where stealing and baseball don't go hand in hand.

"It's just counter to what we're trying to teach the kids about sportsmanship, citizenship, doing the right thing ... you know, playing by the rules both on the field and in life," Colley said.
