The project is a joint venture between General Growth Properties, Inc. and the landowner, a CDC Houston-managed entity.

The construction will add an estimated 555,000 square feet to the 1.2-million-square-foot center.

"The major expansion of Baybrook Mall will contribute significantly to the economic vitality and quality of life in the area and to other CDC-managed properties and land nearby," said Keith D. Simon, executive vice president of CDC-Houston.

Located on the north side of Baybrook Mall, the new 285,000 square foot lifestyle expansion connects to the existing property between Forever 21 and Dillard's.

A 270,000 square foot power center completes the project with a variety of big-box anchor tenants, restaurants and family-friendly activity venues.

To accommodate the expansion, a single-story parking deck will be added to the property.

In addition to the expansion, another key component is the addition of a grassy lawn at the heart of the area. The lawn, is about the length of a football field and will serve as a gathering spot for visitors.

"We envision this area as a place for fun, a gathering spot for the community. Cool and green, with benches and seating areas, it's a spot to sit with a friend and visit. It's a natural spot for kids to play. It's a spot for events. It will become the heart of the center and the community," said Colin Moussa, marketing manager for Baybrook Mall.

Work begins in early May with completion by the 2015 holiday season.
